Nature of Work
The Director of the University Honors and Leadership (UHL) Program provides academic and administrative leadership to outstanding undergraduate student scholars and leaders admitted into the UHL program.

Supervision Received
The UHL Director reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Undergraduate Experiences within the division of Academic Affairs.  The AVC for Undergraduate Experiences is responsible for providing supervision, establishing performance goals, and carrying out an administrative performance evaluation.

Supervision Exercised
The UHL Director supervises the UHL Administrative Assistant ,  UHL student office assistants, and possibly the position occupied as the Director of Chancellor’s Scholars and Leaders (2-year program being incorporated into UHL).

Examples of Work Performed

  1. Provides leadership and strategic planning for UHL implementation and sustainability.
  2. Develops and implements an administrative model that incorporates current Chancellor’s Scholars and Leaders director position into the integrated UHL program.
  3. Chairs the UHL Faculty Steering Committee that solicits UHL courses, approves UHL course content, approves faculty instructors in UHL courses, provides training to UHL faculty, and regularly assesses the UHL program.
  4. Represents the UHL program to UC Denver schools, college and administrative units.  Works with UC Denver schools and colleges to maintain UHL program quality, coordinate student advising, and develop UHL courses.
  5. Represents the UHL program to outside constituents such as K-12 education, business community, civic organizations, state and local governments, and regional and national honors societies.
  6. Works with UCD academic and administrative constituencies to develop marketing strategies to recruit highest quality students to UHL program.
  7. Works with UHL Faculty Steering Committee and the CU Foundation to establish a UHL Community Board for program development and fundraising opportunities.
  8. Works with UHL Community Board and the CU Foundation to develop fundraising strategies to augment UHL student scholarships and UHL program incentives.
  9. Manages the UHL budget on a day-to-day basis.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The UHL Director must possess academic skills, as well as faculty teaching and research experience.  The UHL Director must have a record of academic and administrative leadership.

Minimum Requirements

  1. tenured UC Denver faculty member at rank of associate professor or professor
  2. minimum five years of academic experience at UCD
  3. minimum five years of faculty experience with undergraduate students

Desired Qualifications

  1. Rank of professor
  2. Ability to coordinate people and activities across all undergraduate downtown Denver colleges
  3. General knowledge of UC Denver Core Curriculum
  4. Experience in undergraduate student advising
  5. Experience in promoting, marketing, and recruiting students and faculty both internally and externally to UC Denver
  6. Experience in academic program development
  7. Experience in fundraising and collaboration with CU Foundation
  8. Experience in working with UC Denver budgets
  9. Experience in supervising staff

Salary Range
Current evaluation calls for a 50% position as UHL Director with possible increase in percentage appointment as the UHL program grows.  The AY salary is based on a range of $80,000 to $140,000 for a 100% appointment.
