REQUIREMENT FOR NEW FACULTY!

New Feculty Orientation - August 10th, 2009 *Registration Now Open*

Registration is now open for New Faculty Orientation which is required for all newly hired tenure track faculty, instructors and lecturers. New Faculty Orientation will be held Monday August 10th, 2009, with additional programs and presentation held throughout the week of August 10th. DIVERSIFY YOUR SYLLABI

Thursday, August 13th 9am-11am

Just in time for Fall Semester, an opportunity you can’t resist. A workshop to help faculty redesign one course in order to incorporate more diversity into the content will be held Thursday, August 13 from 9am - 11am in the Jackson Enhanced Learning Center of the Auraria Library. To participate, please fill out the application form and submit it along with one course syllabus to Ethnic Studies, Campus Box 134. The first 10 participants will receive a restaurant give-away and all participants will receive the book "Teaching Diversity" For more information, please contact Resa Cooper Morning at 303-315-3613 or via e-mail at resa.cooper-morning@ucdenver.edu.

Important Emergency Preparedness Updates

Program your cell phone with the Auraria Police Dept phone # which is #303-556-5000, as dialing 911 from a cell phone will go to Denver Police and cause a delay in response. 9-1-1 calls dialed from office phones are routed directly to Auraria Police Dispatch. When dialing 9-1-1 from office phones at the Anschutz Medical Campus, calls are directed to the University of Colorado Denver Police Department dispatch.

Congratulations to the 2009/2010 Faculty Development Grant Awardees

There was tremendous response to the 09/10 Faculty Development Grant Call for Proposals. 53 proposals were submitted in three categories requesting a total of $273,290. 2 proposals were awarded in Category A ($10,000); 3 in Category B (($5,000); and 10 in Category C ($2,000). The Tenure Track Mentoring Program hosts "A Day With Brad Johnson"

On May 1st, The Tenure Track Mentoring Program hosted Brad Johnson, renowned author and mentoring expert, in a workshop that examined the purposes, complexities, rewards and importance of mentorship in higher education. Approximately 30 people braved the dense fog to attend the workshop at the Pines at Genessee.

Spring 2009 Latitude Highlights Faculty Mentoring

This issue celebrates the culmination of the third year of the Tenure Track Faculty Mentoring Program. This year, 60% of eligible downtown faculty participated in the program compared to just 20% in 2006. 37 mentors, several of whom had more than one mentee, guided 52 mentees this year. In this edition of Latitude, several of these mentor-mentee relationships are highlighted, including the cross disciplinary collaboration between Greg Cronin and Jason Ren, the friendship developed between Ron Rorrer and Storm Gloor, and the perspective shared between Rod Muth and Omar Swartz.
