Math Placement and Testing

The Mathematics department utilizes the MyMathTest (MMT) prerequisite test to determine appropriate placement in College Algebra and Calculus. Prerequisite tests are offered during new student orientation and at any time that the Math Lab is open (most days on which there are classes).

MATH 1010 – Mathematics for the Liberal Arts: MA1

Fulfills CLAS computation requirements. (Formerly MATH 2000)

Prep for Algebra (MyMathTest) Score 68% or 17/25

 

MATH 1070 - Algebra for Social Sciences and Business: MA1

It is the policy of the UCD Mathematics Department to require the "Prep for Algebra (MyMathTest)" prerequisite exam in MATH 1070. Students who do not pass the exam with a score of 68% or greater will not be able to enroll.  Students who do pass the exam will need to add the course using a Schedule Adjustment Form with a signature from the MERC Lab coordinator or a designated person in the Math Department. Students who meet the following criteria may register for MATH 1070 without having to take the MMT:

 

  • an AP Calculus (AB or BC) test score of at least "3."
  • ACT-MATH score of at least 24.
  • SAT-MATH score of at least 560.
  • ACCUPLACER Elementary Algebra score of at least 85.
  • ACCUPLACER College-Level Math score of at least 80.

[Note that ACCUPLACER testing is no longer offered at UCD.]

Prereq: at least a year of high school algebra and a satisfactory score on the prerequisite exam. No co-credit with MATH 1110 or 1130.

MATH 1110 - College Algebra: MA1

It is the policy of the UCD Mathematics Department to require the "Prep for Algebra (MyMathTest)" prerequisite exam in MATH 1110. MATH 1120  - College Trigonometry: MA1


Prereq: MATH 1110.   No joint credit with MATH 1130.

MATH 1130 - Precalculus Mathematics: MA1

Intended as a review for those who completed college algebra & trig, but feel need for further prep prior to calculus.
Prereq: No co-credit with MATH 1070, 1110 or 1120.

Prep for Calculus (MyMathTest) Score 68% or 17/25

MATH 1401 - Calculus I: MA1

It is the policy of the UCD Mathematics Department to require the "Prep for Calculus (MyMathTest)" prerequisite exam in MATH 1401. Students who do not pass the exam with a score of 68% or greater will not be able to enroll.  Students who do pass the exam will need to add the course using a Schedule Adjustment Form with a signature from the MERC Lab coordinator or a designated person in the Math Department. Students who meet the following criteria may register for MATH 1401 without having to take the MMT:

 

  • AP Calculus credit on your transcript (AB or BC)
  • ACT-MATH score of at least 27.
  • SAT-MATH score of at least 620.
  • ACCUPLACER College-Level Math score of at least 80.
