When should I apply and what is the deadline for application for each semester?
The undergraduate international student application deadlines are July 22 and Dec 15. The graduate student deadline varies by department, but the preferential deadline is March 15 (fall) and October 1 (spring). What is the application fee?
The application fee is a non-refundable $ 75.00 and this fee cannot be waived.
 
Can you please waive my application fees?
The application fee cannot be waived, as this money is used as part of the processing fee for international student application.
 
My grades are not on the American scale, is there a conversion method used?
Grade conversion is done by the international admissions office. We will need your original documents in the original language and an official English translation to make a grade conversion.
 
Will you offer me any scholarships, financial aid, GA's, TA's, RA's etc?
A very limited number of scholarships are made available from for international students by their academic departments. Please be advised that these funds cannot be guaranteed to any student and decisions are only made by the departments after student arrival on campus, depending on availability as long as the student satisfies other requirements to apply for the position. Student Assistant positions pay an average minimum wage of $ 8.00 for undergraduate and $ 10.00 for graduate students.
 
Where is the University of Colorado Denver,, Downtown Campus located?
The University of Colorado Denver, Downtown Denver campus is nested at the foot of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Its elevation of 5,280 feet (1.61 kilometers) makes Denver known worldwide as the “Mile High City”. The metropolitan area is comprised of a population around 2.4 million. The moderate temperatures provide four distinct seasons, and the Denver area usually has more than 300 days of sunshine each year (more than Miami or Los Angles).
 
What do you mean by official copies of academic documents, transcript or mark sheets?
Official copies are the academic documents sent directly by your previous academic institution to the University of Colorado Denver or are issued to student in a sealed envelope by the institution to be delivered unopened to the University of Colorado Denver.
 
What exams do I need to take? TOEFL, SAT, GRE and GMAT?
TOEFL is mandatory for all international applicants. SAT is only required for international freshman engineering applicants. GMAT required for all graduate international business applicants. School of Education, Department of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences do not require GRE for international grad applicants if their GPA is above 2.75/4.00 standards. However the department of Civil Engineering does request GRE scores from all international applicants. In cases where the other academic credentials are very strong, international applicants may request a waiver by contacting the Department of Civil Engineering directly. The request will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If you are applying for any other graduate program please contact the department for GRE requirements.
 
I have studied at a U.S. higher education institution for over a year; can you waive the TOEFL requirement?
If you are an international undergraduate applicant, the TOEFL requirement can be waived if you have taken two freshman level English courses and have achieved above B average. If you are an international graduate applicant, who has completed a master's degree program in the United States, the TOEFL requirement may be waived by the academic department.

How do I show financial support? What is a sponsor?
You need a financial statement (affidavit of support), bank statement ending balance with at least the amount on financial budget planner. The bank statement should not be over six months old when received by International Admissions. The sponsor is the person who is providing financial support during the length of your studies.
 
How do I show that the funds are available?
You need to submit a financial statement or an affidavit of support from your sponsor along with an original copy of the sponsor’s bank statement. Please be advised that faxed copies or photocopies will not be accepted to prove financial resources.
 
After I apply when will I have an answer? When will I receive my I-20/DS-2019?
It varies. The undergraduate decisions are usually made within three weeks after receiving an application. Graduate files are reviewed by academic departments and may take longer. I-20/DS-2019 immigration forms will be issued only after you are accepted in a program and you have provided evidence of sufficient financial support.

Can I work on-campus/off campus?
International Students are only eligible to work up to 20 hours per week on campus while maintaining international student status. To get work permission please meet with the international student advisor after your arrival on campus. International students are not eligible for off campus employment during their first two semesters. Off campus employment may be possible as an internship or practical training later on for international students provided they meet other requirements.

I am a transfer student; will I receive credit for coursework previously taken at University level?
Yes a complete transfer credit report will be mailed to international undergrad applicants within two weeks after they are accepted. Graduate transfer credits are subject to approval by the respective academic department.
 
How do I defer my admission?
Admission can be deferred only twice by a student. Please email the international admission office at international@cudenver.edu to defer your application. Students with an application over a year old at time of deferral need to reapply with a new application form and an application fee of $ 75.00. A new financial statement and bank statement need to be submitted at the time of deferral if the financial documents in your file are over six months old.

How do I get to the University of Colorado Denver, Downtown Campus?
You need to arrive at the Denver International Airport and approach the Super Shuttle Counter near the baggage claim area. They will be able to provide you with shuttle service to your destination (hotel or residence). For more information about their service please click here

What should I bring along when I arrive at the University of Colorado Denver?
Most of the things are available in United States. Some items may be hard to find or may be more expensive. The following is a list of things that might be useful and which students tend to forget when packing their suitcases.
  • An extra pair of reading glasses/contact lenses (it may be more expensive in the USA)
  • A winter coat/leather jacket and other leather accessories.
  • A few pictures of “Near and Dear Ones”.
  • Sheets, blanket, towel and other linens.
  • Your favorite Music/Movies/CDs/DVDs from back home. (It may be hard to find or may be more expensive in USA).
  • Toiletries such as soap, shampoo, hair gel, shaving cream (to stay fresh until you find the nearest super market).
  • A battery operated alarm clock (You may need an adapter to use electrical goods from your country in the USA).
  • Some traditional outfits from your country to wear at special occasions.
  • A suit and/or other formal wear.
  • Phone numbers/Addresses of your contacts in the USA.

What services are provided by the office on international education?
The University of Colorado Denver, through the Office of International Education (OIE), provides a variety of international programs, educational opportunities, and services for international and domestic students, scholars, faculty, staff, and the greater Denver community. The goals of OIE are to raise international awareness on the UCD campus and, in particular, to provide an opportunity for all students to gain the global competency needed in today’s interdependent world.
 
OIE arranges student study abroad programs, expedites the exchange of students and faculty, hosts international visitors, promotes special relationships with foreign universities, and advises students and faculty on Fulbright and National Security Exchange Program (NSEP) and other scholarship opportunities. OIE also functions as a recruiting, retention, and advisory office for international students and coordinates many services for them before and after they have been accepted to UCD, including: new student orientation, visa and immigration advice, and help for those international students who need assistance with a variety of questions and potential difficulties. In addition, OIE seeks to increase community awareness of international issues by periodically sponsoring lectures and programs that are open to the general public.
 
Why can’t I register for courses online before my arrival on campus? I have just been admitted at UCD.
If you plan to register before arrival, you must contact Laura Potter (laura.potter@cudenver.edu) or Amy Boom (amy.boom@cudenver.edu) in the Office of International Education (OIE) because there is a registration stop on all new international students until they check in with OIE. 
 
You must follow up by attending one of the mandatory Check-In Sessions for new international students.  If you do not contact OIE, the registration stop will remain until your arrival in the U.S.  If you currently live in the United States you may register after you contact OIE and after you send your transfer eligibility form to OIE. Where can I find off campus housing?
You can find some properties around the University of Colorado Denver by clicking here. Please click on the "SHOW PROPERTIES" button on the right for links to different properties around our campus. If you want to narrow your search, please insert the rent per month and number of bedrooms. Your search results will also indicate the distance to the property from our campus.

Is immunization/medical checkup necessary? No immunization or medical checkup is necessary for international students as we are currently a non residential campus.

Can international students take non degree courses?
Immigration form I20 cannot be issued to non degree students; however you can take non degree courses if you are already in the country with another university or on another visa status.
