Bioscience Program

The Bard Center is developing a special focus on bioscience entrepreneurship, resulting from the merger of the University of Colorado at Denver and CU's Health Sciences Center as well as the focus on bioscience as a new economic driver for Colorado.

We have designed the Bioscience Program to give students the knowledge, skills, networking support, and business development help they need to work in the emerging Colorado biocluster or to develop their own bioscience company.

Our current program has three basic components: academic courses, experiential learning, and networking and business development support.

Experiential Learning

The Bard Center offers bioscience internships with local firms during the spring semester. Students earn academic credit by enrolling in the Bioscience Internship course, and interns receive a scholarship to cover internship tuition costs. In addition, a new one-year postdoctoral technology transfer fellowship was launched – the Colorado Bioscience Fellowship Program (CBP). The program is designed for post-doctoral life science students who have a desire to work in or create an entrepreneurial Bioscience Company in Colorado. Participants spend three months working in the University of Colorado Technology Transfer Office, three months working at the Fitzsimons Biobusiness Incubator, and six months working at a medical device, pharmaceutical, or Bioscience Company along with specific academic courses outlined above.

Networking and Business Development Support

By providing students with access to the Bard Center's family of supporters, we connect students to people who can help them develop their business ideas and jumpstart their careers. An Entrepreneur-in-Residence is available at the Bard Center to provide students with hands-on advice. In addition, business development help is available in the form of networking events, venture capital, incubator space, technical support, and access to our Bard Center Business Plan competition.
