Your Business School

This movie uses QuickTime. If you need the free plug in, click here.

The Business School is located right downtown. This is the largest graduate school of business in Colorado and in the Rocky Mountain region. The unique urban setting is very different from other schools. Metro Denver acts as our campus and all you have to do is walk down the streets to see how proactive and alive the city is. Denver is expected to continue to grow. Many of our students are involved with the business community already while going to school part time.

Student 1: “The Business School isn’t just for younger students who are moving right into grad school after receiving their bachelor's degrees. It is also for students who are coming back; they went into the field and decided they wanted to go further...”

Student 2: "I've got 11 years of a high tech international background, overseas and I picked The Business School because of its opportunities to work with other professionals and its diverse backgrounds."

We are locally based but with an international focus. Our 11-Month MBA program takes our students abroad and exposes them to foreign professors ... we have international students who come here. All of this gives us an international flavor.

Student 3: "I'm from India—born and raised there—I received my MD from there. I worked in hospitals and for Non-governmental organizations. Very few universities give you the opportunity to bring together a classroom curriculum with a practical experience of a teaching hospital.

"The Health Administration program in particular is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). This is a very prestigious organization which gives its accreditation to a few programs in the country and this is one of the main reasons I joined this program"

The international business climate today is global and this effects what we do in the Business School almost in every class and every topic. The goal is to prepare students so they can step on the global stage and be prepared to do business with foreign companies, foreign nationals and be effective and efficient at that level.

Student 2: "We had an opportunity to present to British Telecom at the CEO and board level. We showed projects we worked on. We looked at different opportunities they could pursue in order to obtain entry into the US healthcare IT sector.”

Student 1: "We also have available online classes…Some students travel for business, or travel internationally as some of our students will do—to China for the summer. Online classes meet those needs.”

The University is a great place to do research in a particular area, from finance to Marketing. We are concerned about translating that information to the business person out there trying to run a business. We are very focused trying to understand that translation piece. What is actionable knowledge? What kind of knowledge does a person out there in the business community actually need to improve their business? These are central questions for The Business School.

A business education has almost become a necessity in today's global fast paced business environment. The Business School has what students need. We have 16 different programs including undergraduate and many different kinds of graduate programs. The university has just opened a brand new housing facility which will enrich the life of the campus.

We serve the local businesses. These are emerging businesses and our question is, “What can The Business School do to move these businesses along?”

Business leader: "There’s almost a symbiotic relationship with the business community. The students are the future employees and business leaders. To be close and to be able to interact with the business community is really a wonderful partnership."

Across our boards we have 150 companies who are involved with students, classes, curriculum, and in support of The Business School. These companies work with us and help guide The Business School in new directions.

Business leader: "When we have openings at our organization, we use the job posting at the university. The people we get are talented. They are prepared, and they know what's needed so they are able to perform."

Student 2: "Another important aspect is The Bard Center for Entrepreneurship. It is nestled in downtown Denver, very close to businesses. They bring the professors to us. They also bring business leaders who are able to come and speak about different current events they are dealing with."

Students can take classes in entrepreneurship; get a certificate in entrepreneurship; and all of that can apply directly to a degree.

The Business School has grown from a few hundred students to almost 3000 students today. We started with less than 10 faculty and we now have almost 100 faculty.

Student 2: "I'm now in month 9 of the 11-Month MBA program and can look back and feel I have gained considerable knowledge—not only in the business realm but also knowledge to further myself in my career.

The Business School of the future is your business school. We are evolving curriculum; evolving the programs; evolving where we go with this business school and the local business community. There's nothing like it in the world.
