For online help with registering, see the Registration Handbook on the Registrar’s website: www.cudenver.edu/registrar.

How do I find out what classes are available?

  • You can find out through the Course Search & Schedule Planner.  Go to www.cudenver.edu > Registrar > Course Search & Schedule Planner.
  • There is also a real time search engine within the SMART system.  Log-in to SMART > Registration > Register > select term > Course Search.

When do I register for classes?

  • You will be sent an “Invitation to Register” via email each semester.  This email will contain your registration date and time. You can also check the SMART system to check your “Reg Status.”
  • It is important that your email is up to date in the SMART system.
  • Registration date & times will be assigned approximately 3 weeks before registration opens for the following semester.
  • Your registration time will vary each term according to the last three digits of your student ID number. The order also occurs according to the number of credits you have completed (i.e., seniors can register before sophomores).

When is the last day I can add a class?

  • Check the Academic Calendar for the drop/add deadline each semester. This date is often known as “Census Date.”  It is the 12th working day of the semester for Fall & Spring, and the 8th working day for Summer.
  • Many CAM courses require that students attend from the first day of class. Please consult with the instructor if you are adding a course later than the first day of class.

How to I register for Extended Studies Courses (e.g., Digital Animation, Winterim, etc.)?

Before taking Extended Studies courses, please consult with your academic advisor to ensure that they fulfill degree requirements.

When should I take specific courses and requirements?

  • It is recommended that students make an appointment with their advisor to discuss requirements and develop a schedule.
  • Students can formulate a tentative schedule plan by accessing their specific advising sheets, as well as the sample schedules for their emphasis area.
  • You should plan to complete their Writing/Speech and Math requirements by the end of your sophomore year. Transfer students may be on a different timeline and should consult with an advisor.
  • It is a good idea to begin a foreign language for a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) before your junior year if you did not complete this requirement in high school.

What is a Student ID number (SID)?

  • The Student ID number (SID) is a randomly generated 9-digit number assigned to all incoming students for ID purposes.  It will be mailed to you with your acceptance letter.
  • You will use this number, along with your PIN, to log in to the SMART system to register and check or update your information.
  • You will also use this number to identify yourself when consulting various campus offices.
  • For privacy and security, the University no longer uses Social Security numbers as student ID numbers.
  • If you are a returning student who still has your Social Security number as your Student ID number, you can request a new Student ID number by completing the Name and Number Change Form available at http://www.cudenver.edu/Admissions/Registrar/Forms/

What if I forget/lose my student ID number?

  • First, go to the log-on page for the SMART system. There you can request that they e-mail you your ID or PIN number. It will be sent to the e-mail address listed in the SMART system; therefore, we suggest that you keep this e-mail updated!
  • If this does not work, contact the Records Office at 303-556-2389 or go to the Service Center (NC 1503).

What is a PIN?

A PIN is your 4-digit Personal Identification Number. It ensures the security of your academic and financial records. Used with your student ID number, your PIN is your password to logging in to the SMART system.

Where can I get a PIN and what if I lose it?

  • You will be assigned a temporary PIN once you have been accepted to the University.  This will be mailed to you with your acceptance letter.
  • You may change this PIN after your first log-in to the SMART system.
  • If you forget your PIN, you can have an automatic e-mail sent to you by clicking on “Forgot Your PIN” on the SMART sign-on page.
  • If you have problems with your PIN, contact the Records Office: 303-556-2389.
