UC Denver’s College of Arts & Media presents three contemporary a cappella groups as part of CAM’s 10th Anniversary “Tomorrow” Celebration: one high school, one collegiate, and one professional, to showcase this unique and energizing artform.
A cappella, from the Italian, “in the style of the chapel,” means no more and no less than singing, unaccompanied by instruments. This type of choral music, originally sacred, and spanning hundreds of years of music history, has found its way into the contemporary world through the doo-wop groups of the 1950s, through jazz groups like The Swingle Singers and Take 6, to Bobby McFerin’s number one hit, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.”
