Look! You are soaring down a shocking pink tunnel as organic blue and green forms pass you by, collide, and combine.
Feel! You twist and turn effortlessly along.
Listen! A deep insistent beat swells from behind, building in volume, as it passes, seeping in from every direction, while marking the ebb and flow of the changing speed.
Reality check! You are sitting under the wondrous expanse of the Gates Planetarium Dome at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in North America experiencing an immersive surround sound environment depicting a three-dimensional digital animation of red blood cells coursing through the circulatory system. Science and art in concert–pushing boundaries of visual and aural technologies.
“Denver 360°: Immersive Art Environments” is an evening of breathtaking imagery, surround sound, and visual immersion developed as a collaboration between the University of Colorado Denver College of Arts & Media and the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. The event features works of art that are designed specifically for dome environments including • excerpts from the Denver Museum of Nature & Science Dome Programming, • a retrospective from “Domefest 2007” (a global festival for full immersive artwork) • “Immersive Earth & Beyond” • College of Arts & Media faculty and student animations • a Surround Sound Demonstration by CAM faculty and graduate students • and, an exploration of the dome as an “Out of the Box” environment for creative research.
