Rocky Mountain PBS’ ITVS Community Cinema program Free Documentary Screenings
Come to free documentary screenings and discussions each month through May at Starz FilmCenter. Rocky Mountain PBS’ ITVS Community Cinema program offers sneak previews of films scheduled for upcoming broadcast on the Emmy-winning PBS series “Independent Lens.” All Community Cinema screenings include panel discussions afterwards with members of community-based organizations. Sponsored by Rocky Mountain PBS, ITVS, the Denver Film Society, the University of Colorado Denver College of Arts and Media and the Denver Urban Spectrum.
A Dream in Doubt

America’s first post 9/11 hate crime murder punctuated a growing wave of violence in retaliation for the terror attacks. Told through the eyes of a victim’s brother, this film travels to Phoenix to tell a personal story of national tragedy, murder, community and the American dream.
New Year Baby
Wednesday, May 28 • 7pm
Born in a Thai refugee camp on Cambodian New Year, filmmaker Socheata Poeuv grew up in the United States never knowing that her family had survived the Khmer Rouge genocide. In “New Year Baby,” she embarks on a journey to Cambodia in search of the truth and why her family’s history had been buried in secrecy for so long.

An Evening of Student Films

This annual event focuses on the students of the Colorado Film School and the presentation of their short films in a retrospective format. The films have been juried and the night culminates in an award presentation. This is the University of Colorado Denver’s red carpet event of student cinematic work.
