A mixed instrumental group with no stylistic limitations, the UC Denver Chamber Ensemble features saxophonist Jason Kane, pianist Bianca Stelly, trumpeter Brian Logan, vibraphonist Cody Schlueter, guitarist Itai Peer, and cellist Ian McCormick. The group will perform original music and arrangements, from the Italian Baroque through the Avant-Garde.

Instructor Thomas VanSchoick directs a talented pool of percussionists through a maze of syncopated synergy and diverse musical genres. Students perform in ensembles that range from duets to fully conducted “symphonies” of xylophone, vibraphone, congas, and marimba.

UC Denver A Cappella Voices is an intermediate singing group of 20-25 voices that performs a range of a cappella styling, from du-wop to contemporary music. This group provides a strong foundation in contemporary choral and a cappella styles, and is an excellent preparation for entry into The Ninth Avenue Singers.
The Ninth Street Singers, directed by Erin Hackel, is an elite group of mixed voices, performing a cappella music in many genres, from pop to gospel to jazz. This UC Denver signature ensemble performs at UC Denver’s commencement ceremonies and other official UC Denver functions.
The UC Denver 7 is a competitive a cappella group that performs primarily original arrangements in preparation for the annual Rocky Mountain Harmony Sweepstakes Competition.

For the past 20 years, Associate Professor Bill Clark and his signature ensemble, The Claim Jumpers, have entertained audiences with their traditional New Orleans-style jazz and exceptional musicianship. After graduation, many of the members begin their careers as professional musicians. The band has received two Down Beat magazine awards, made 30 plus jazz festival appearances all across the country, played at over 150 UC Denver events, and recorded four CDs. In addition, the Claim Jumpers have toured in Germany and performed at the Moscow Conservatory.

Enjoy one of UC Denver’s more contemporary ensembles, the Pop Rock Ensemble. Led by UC Denver instructor John Cullison, this ensemble explores modern styles with high levels of musicianship. Students study and perform pop masterpieces as well as create original compositions.

The Electric/Acoustic Ensemble takes traditional instruments such as guitar, bass, and drums and combines them with real-time sounds from digital instruments, turntables and other electronic sources. This combination creates a unique, experimental sound. The ensemble plays improvised music and creative interpretations along with arrangements of popular classics. Joining the ensemble this spring will be Dave Devine’s ensemble class.
