The Queen City Jazz Band has been around since 1958, formed when Denver disc jockey, Harney Peterson, suggested the city needed a good jazz band and opened his home for groups to get together to jam. He helped the group find their first performance venue, an old roadhouse called the Mon Vue Village where they played for next 18 years.
What was just a weekend gig has grown into over four decades of regular weekly performances in a variety of venues. The band has become a Colorado musical institution and has been honored by the State Legislature, two governors, and the Denver City Council for its cultural contributions.
Now they play nationally and internationally, thrilling audiences with the great sounds of the jazz era. They recreate the style of Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver and Ma Rainey, and are one of the most recognized traditional jazz bands in the country.
