E. J. Choe, pianist

EJ Choe, pianist and instructor

E. J. Choe is a full-time Senior Instructor teaching applied piano, piano class, music appreciation, sight singing, and ear training, and is a Coordinator for Class Piano in the Music and Entertainment Industry Studies Department at UCD. Native of Seoul, Korea, she made a televised debut as a guest pianist for the Korean Broadcasting System Network at age six.  Since then, many trips were made back to Korea to give concerts and master classes at Yeonsei University, Kangwon University, Chun Nam University, and Honam University.  While growing up in Colorado, she was a prizewinner in numerous competitions including CSMTA, MTNA, and Fort Collins International Competition; she studied with Michele Block, Larry Graham, Doris Lehnert, and Robert Spillman.  She has appeared as guest soloist with the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra, Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra, and Arvada Symphony Orchestra.  Her studies include a B.M. and M.M. from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Doctoral of Music in Piano, Music Literature and Pedagogy from Indiana University at Bloomington.  While studying at IU, she collaborated with such artists as world-class opera singers Martina Arroyo, James King, Giorgio Tozzi, Roy Samuelsen, and Virginia Zeani. 

In addition to her career as a pianist, vocal coaching led her to serve as an opera coach/music director at the Aspen Music Festival Opera Center; Centro Studi Italiani in Urbania, Italy; Indiana University Opera Center; and DePauw University. She also collaborated and lectured/performed at the Music Teachers National Association national conference in 2003.

E. J. Choe has been on the piano faculty at the University of Colorado Denver since fall of 2000.
