David Liban, Assistant professor of film/Video

David LibanDavid Liban has worked in the television and film business since 1987. He has produced and directed numerous independent productions that vary in style from fiction to documentary, and live-to-tape television studio production.

Liban's films and videos have received numerous awards from both national and international film festivals. In January 2003, he completed a short film called, Smithee's Lecture which screened at the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art in April 2003.

Using the material from Smithee's Lecture he has created an educational resource for instructors teaching video editing. It is being marketed and distributed through First Light Publishers.

His film is a documentary called Carhenge: Genius or Junk?. Carhenge is a to-scale replica of Stonehenge made out of 38 junked automobiles. This 30 minute program details the origins and obstacles of the monument's plight.

Liban received a Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Award in Television Production and taught video production at Catolica Universidade in Porto, Portugal from February through May 2002.

Recently, David was nominated for an Emmy - Cultural Documentary- 43rd Midwestern Emmy - 2007 for his documentary, Carhenge–Genius or Junk? David has two films that will be shown during the fall 2007 CAM events season, Geocache and The Ghosts of Elitch Theatre. David also produced a promotional film for UCD's Business School.
