Summer Study Abroad
The travel abroad opportunity offered each summer at the Burren College of Art, County Clare, Ireland is designed to broaden students experience outside of the university context. The intensive four weeks in Ireland is team-taught by sculpture and photography faculty and provides students with experiential opportunity unlike the traditional class structure. The Irish landscape and culture is the backdrop for the course that introduces students of all expressive media and to the methods and concepts of contemporary art. Theoretical concepts are associated and reflected by each individual as they introduce site specificity, collaboration and immediacy to their creative repertoire. Students are encouraged to use unconventional materials found on site, as well as traditional materials both on site and in the studio. Projects will challenge students to consider the context in which images, objects, text and time-based media are presented.
