Just ASK! Assess - Career Assessments

NEVER EVER rely on an assessment test to determine your future career paths!  This may sound like strange advice coming from an organization whose intended purpose is to promote and sell these kinds of guidance tools, but while we do believe that assessments serve as a great way to begin the process, they should only be used as a guide, and should only be interpreted by trained professionals.  Note that no single assessment or exercise will provide you with a definitive answer; it is important to approach self-assessment from many angles.  Below is a description of our assessment tools:

Our program includes:

A - Myers Briggs Type Indicator
B - Strong Interest Inventory
C - SkillScan Card Sort
D - Career Values Card Sort and Additional Career Questionnaire

A – The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI):
This inventory helps you identify personality characteristics that can be useful in understanding personal work habits, decision-making and communication styles, preferred work environments, and potential occupations that may interest you.  The workshop includes an interpretation of your MBTI results, a discussion of how to use this information in your career decision-making process, and access to additional Myers-Briggs-related resources.

B – The Strong Interest Inventory (SII):
This inventory can help you identify and prioritize your career-related interests.  Based on more than 60 years of research, the SII is one of the most reliable interest inventories available today.  It measures your level of interests in a broad range of categories and then compares your interests to those of people who are happily employed in a variety of occupations.  The workshop includes an SII interpretation and a discussion of how to recognize important career-related interests in everyday activities.

C – SkillScan Card Sort
Because feeling competent and motivated in an intended career path are important in determining career satisfaction, it is important to be clear about the skills at your disposal and what your strongest attributes are.  The SkillScan Card Sort can help you identify and prioritize the skills you would prefer to use in your career.  The SkillScan must be completed at least one day prior to the CDP and can be taken at the Career Center (Tivoli 267).

D – Values Assessment and Additional Career Questionnaire
Please complete these additional assessments and bring them with you to the CDP.  These additional assessments are critical components which can help you to further identify the overall strengths and values that you would bring with you to your chosen career.
