Tenure-Track Faculty Mentoring Program

Welcome to the website of the Tenure-Track Faculty Mentoring Program at the University of Colorado Denver. The program provides professional development support for tenure-track assistant professors. This site provides a variety of resources for participants, including a blog for ongoing discussions. Please explore the options listed on the right side of this page, or post a response to any of the topics shown below.

Strategies for balancing faculty responsibilities

Tenure-track faculty are variously responsible for duties such as research, creative work, teaching, and service.  For instance, demonstration of successful teaching is essential for reappointment, promotion, and tenure for most faculty at the Downtown Denver Campus. Tenure evaluators ask questions about average annual research productivity and the importance of the scholarly venues. Your primary unit has specific expectations regarding service. And it’s easy to let service commitments consume vast quantities of time and energy.

So how do successful faculty get it all done? Hopefully, the drive toward tenure does not require sleep deprivation and estrangement from loved ones. But the process can be overwhelming without workable time-management strategies. Through the comment section here, our hope is that tenured faculty will share some thoughts on how to achieve balance among responsibilities related to being on the tenure track.
