Graduating from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
CLAS offers two baccalaureate degrees: the Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Degree), and Bachelor of Sciences (B.S. Degree). Both degrees are designed to provide you with a liberal education. See "What can you do with a Liberal Arts Education?"
Graduation
Graduation ceremonies are held at the end of Spring and Fall terms. You can also graduate in the summer, even though there will be no ceremony. August graduates are invited to particiapte in the Fall commencement ceremony in December.
You will be required to meet with your CLAS advisor in order to apply for graduation. You should also plan to meet with your major/minor advisors as well.
Application Procedures and Deadlines
In order to graduate, you will need to complete the following steps:
1. Meet with your CLAS advisor who will distribute the graduation application to students who qualify.
2. Complete your Intent to Graduate via Registrar's website. This is not your official application for graduation.
3. Meet with your major/minor advisor(s) and confirm that you are completing your program(s).
4. Return completed application to the CLAS Advising office by the deadline:
- Summer 2007: June 4, 2007
- Fall 2007: August 30, 2007
Graduation applications can only be attained from your CLAS Advisor. Applications are due no later than the Drop/Add deadline for full term classes.
**Failure to follow all of the above steps may result in a delay in your graduation!
You should meet with your CLAS advisor as soon as possible after you register for your final semester's classes. Advisors will not give you a graduation application until the confirm that you will graduate in the upcoming term. All CLAS students, including those in the IPTE program, are required to go through this process.
Graduation applications and the online Intent to Graduate are available from the first day of register in the semester you plan to graduate until the deadline above. You must register for your final classes prior to getting an application from your Academic Advisor.
Diplomas and graduation Ceremonies
Graduation ceremonies are held twice a year, May 12, 2007 and December 15, 2007. Students graduating in summer will be invited to participate in the December ceremony. For more information about Commencement, please check their website.
Your diploma will include only your degree information (Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science) and your major. Your option, minor, certificates are not noted on the diploma itself. Your transcript will reflect all of that information.
If you are completing and individual structured major, your diploma will say: BA Individually Structured. The title of the major will be on your transcript (i.e., BA Individual Structured Major: Elementary Education).
