Larry Erbert, Ph.D., Associate Professor
Background
Larry A. Erbert received his Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Iowa in 1996. He is currently an associate editor for the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships.
Larry joins the faculty at the University of Colorado, Denver after spending the past six years at the University of Texas, El Paso. As an associate professor at UTEP, he was the founder/director of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies, a co-founder of the Center for Organizational Innovation and Human Development, and a research fellow in the Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies.
Areas of expertise include:
- organizational and interpersonal communication,
- environmental communication,
- conflict,
- mediation, and negotiation.
Current research projects include:
- “Border Crossings and the Communication of Identity,”
- “Conflict in Work and Family for Frequent Border Crossers,” and
- “Interpretations of Grandparents as Surrogate ‘Parents.’
Research publications can be found in outlets such as: The Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, Western Journal of Communication, Small Group Research, Journal of Social Psychology, Communication Studies, and the Iowa Journal of Communication.
Teaching
Dr. Erbert teaches courses in organizational leadership and change, organizational communication, conflict—negotiation and mediation, qualitative research methods, interpersonal communication, and environmental communication.
