Department Scholarships

The Communication Department offers scholarships to Communication majors. Students interested in other scholarships should contact the Scholarship/Resource office at 303-352-3608 or access the scholarship database at www.cudenver.edu/SAC/scholarship.htm.

Communication Majors

The Communication Department offers scholarships that are the equivalent of tuition for a 3-credit course. The scholarships can be used only to pay for tuition and fees. Scholarships are awarded in the fall semesterfor use the following spring semester and only can be applied to courses taken on the campus of the University of Colorado Denver (not on the Boulder or Colorado Springs campuses). Applications for the scholarship will be available the first part of October. Courses on which students spend the scholarships must be completed successfully, or the scholarship will be revoked.

Eligibility

Communication majors who are not in their final semester of their degree program are eligible to apply for the scholarships.

Application Procedures

Students may apply for scholarships at the time that the announcement is made that applications are being accepted each fall. Applications for scholarships should include:

  • Cover sheet that includes the following: name, student number, telephone number(s), e-mail address, mailing address, overall GPA, and GPA in Communication courses.
  • Two-page, double-spaced, typed essay that includes a discussion of the following:
    • The role of communication in creating a better society (applicants might want to reference the four skill areas of the Communication major to address this topic)
    • Plans for using the Communication degree
    • Evidence of merit (for example, GPA, communication internships, Latin honors, community service, or membership in Lambda Pi Eta.
  • Transcript (unofficial) from the University of Colorado Denver
  • Letter of recommendation from a full-time faculty member in the Communication Department. Refer to "Full-time Faculty" listing on the Faculty & Staff page.

Applications should be submitted to the program assistant in the Communication Department, Wanda Lakota, in room 102-N of the Plaza Building.
