CLAS 2006-2007 Awards
Accepting Nominations
We are accepting nominations for the CLAS 2006-2007 awards for teaching, research and creative activities, service and non-tenure track teaching awards. Nominations (a simple e-mail will suffice) are due to Tammy Stone by Wednesday, February 28 and the complete dossiers are due in the Dean’s office by Monday, March 12. The criteria and required documents changed somewhat for the campus wide awards and we adjusted the college criteria to match these (college winners are automatically nominated for the campus wide award).
New Faculty Award Announcement
It is our distinct pleasure to announce a new award -- the CLAS Outstanding Faculty Achievement Award established by Mark Foster, emeritus professor of history. This award has been created to recognize truly exceptional contributions in teaching, research/creative work, and service by a tenured faculty member in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The award recipient will receive a cash stipend of $5,000 per year for three years. As with the other CLAS awards, a plaque dedicated to the recipients of this award will reside in the Dean’s Office, on which the annual recipient’s name will be added.
This award will have its inaugural presentation at the Dean’s Reception on April 23, 2007. Please note that the deadlines on this award differ from the others – nominations are due by Wednesday, February 21 with complete dossiers due in the Dean’s Office by Thursday, March 15.
Criteria
The criteria documents were circulated last week on the listserv. If you still need that information, please contact the Dean’s Office.
Call for Travel Study Proposals
Winter 2007
International Education is pleased to announce the call for Travel Study Proposals for Winter 2007. The proposal guidelines and forms are available on the OIE Web site under “study abroad” and the “faculty and advisor” tab. You may also download the proposal here. Those interested in leading a Travel Study program next winter break (07-08) or during summer 2008 must prepare a Travel Study Proposal and have the proposal reviewed, approved, and signed by the department chair and dean. Proposals are due in the Office of International Education by:
Winter 2007/2008 deadline: March 15, 2007
Summer 2008 deadline: July 1, 2007
Please do not hesitate to call Stephanie Stockham-Ronollo at 303-315-2232 with any further questions.
Grants for Student Research
Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program
Please plan on submitting a grant for student research. The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) enhances undergraduate education by funding students engaged in research, scholarly, creative, and entrepreneurial activities in collaboration with faculty at the downtown Denver campus. Projects are either designed around the activities of a faculty member or designed independently by a student or team of students and endorsed by a faculty sponsor.
APPLICATION DEADLINE MARCH 16, 2007
(anticipated award announcement on April 20, 2007 at our Research and Creative Activities Day).
Participation in UROP is an intense educational experience that introduces students to the process of research, including writing a proposal, preparing a budget, conducting research, analyzing data, and bringing the project to closure in the form of a written abstract and presentation, demonstration or performance. Approximately 20-30 awards will be available through UROP for fiscal year 2007-08 (July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008). Contact Dr. Brad Stith with any questions 303-556-3371.
