The Department of Communication hosts its annual celebration, Communication Days, on April 7-10.  A keynote session will be held on Tuesday, April 8, from 4:00-5:15 in Science Building 119.  The speaker is Tim Z. Hernandez, award-winning writer and performance artist.  His talk is entitled “Border X Performance:  Deconstructing Communication Barriers.”  Teri Hoyer will receive the Friend of the Communication Department Award, and Nora Hayzlett will be honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award.  For information, contact Sonja Foss via email or by phone at 303-556-5526.

New! CU Foundation Staffing Changes

We are sad to report that Jeff Janosko, our development officer, has been offered a new opportunity outside of the university. His last day with UC Denver is today, Friday, Apr. 4. While we are disappointed to lose such a wonderful asset to our college, we are extremely happy to see his career grow.

The CU Foundation is currently searching for two positions, a Senior Director of Development and an Associate Director of Development, to increase their support of the college and our fundraising efforts. They are hopeful to have these individuals on board to help Dean Howard when he starts July 1.

New! Please Announce in Your Classes: Discovery Focus Groups

The marketing and communications committee is putting together a series of focus groups to gain a better understanding:

  • of why undergrad students select UC Denver;
  • what students know about the college and their departments;
  • about the factors that are important to them upon entering the university;
  • as well as things that are important to them now.

Our goal is to better understand our undergraduate students and develop some key messaging and positioning for the college to guide our communication efforts going forward.

We know your class time is very important, and this should only take a couple minutes of your time to announce and circulate the attached sign-up sheet

Dates/Times:
April 29th,  5:30- 7:00 pm and 7:30- 9:00 pm
April 30th,  5:30 – 7:00 pm and 7:30 – 9:00 pm

Location:

Tivoli Student Union

Incentive:
Each participant will receive a $25 gift card for Amazon.com and we will provide them with dinner during the session.

Please return your sign up sheets to Katy Brown by Friday, April 11th so she can follow-up with the students who are interested.

New! In Search of Graduation Stories

The media relations team is casting their net for inspirational and interesting graduation stories.  They’d love to find several to take to different news outlets.  They can be just about anything that you find interesting: moms and dads graduating with their kids, the oldest graduate your department has seen, the most traveled graduate, etc.

Please send your interesting story ideas to Katy Brown.

Committee Nominations

Due to Tammy Stone by April 15
It's time for nominations for committees beginning next academic year.  Please send nominations to Tammy Stone no later than April 15 (if you nominate someone else please make sure they agree to the nomination).  Elections will be held directly after the nominations are complete.  Committee openings are noted in all capital letters in the attached document.
