2007 Commencement

CLAS Celebration a winner
CLAS hosted a bigger and better commencement reception this year. A great turnout, nearly 550 graduates, family, faculty, staff and alumni attended this year’s party in the Tivoli Turnhalle. The celebration was complete with a jazz duo, a beautifully catered spread, and a paperweight gift for alumni. Graduation is a wonderful reminder of why we do what we do, fostering academic excellence and launching careers for our graduates.
UCD Mission, Vision and Values
Your input requested
A task force has been working on defining the Mission, Vision and Values of UCDHSC. The task force would like some input on the first draft. Please send your comments and suggestions to Katy Brown by Monday, May 21, and she will coordinate and communicate the college’s response to this.
Diversity Plan submitted to Provost
The CLAS Diversity Plan has been submitted to the Provost after a great deal of discussion. The Task Force is to be congratulated on its work, as are the Chairs, the members of the CLAS Council, and individual faculty and staff members who made numerous useful suggestions for revision. The conversation has been very productive, and will continue as the College moves into the implementation phase. A copy of the plan is available on our website. Please send questions, suggestions, or comments to Donna Langston or Kathleen Bollard.
CLAS 2007 Committee Elections completed
Thanks to everyone who ran and voted!
The votes are in, and the full complement of CLAS and campus-wide committee membership is available. Terms begin in fall 2007, and last for 3 years for TTF and 1 year for NTTF. We still have one vacancy for the Campus RTP committee for a tenured faculty member in Humanities, so please let Mary Coussons-Read know if you are interested in serving. Thanks again for your participation!
National Endowment for the Humanities
Summer Stipends Program
The National Endowment for the Humanities is again preparing for its Summer Stipends competition. The deadline is October 2, 2007. While the program remains consistent with previous years, there are two important changes:
--An increased stipend: NEH has increased the amount of a Summer Stipend award to $6,000.
--A new method of applying: Like NEH Fellowships, Summer Stipend will be accepting applications online only through Grants.gov
Because of these changes, potential applicants and grants administrators should familiarize themselves with the new application instructions and guidelines posted on the NEH website.
