Dean Harbor bids hello from the Swedish Arctic

Picture of Dean Harbor

Hurricane force winds and -10 C don’t seem to affect Dean Harbor’s research meetings in Tarfala, Sweden.  Despite the communication challenges (dial-up connection that can only be accessed once a day), he’s still managing to keep in touch.  He will return to the office on Monday, April 9.  If he comes back with a tan we’ll know this photo was a hoax!

Next Chairs' Meeting rescheduled & relocated

Please make a note of this change
The next Chairs' Meeting will not be held on April 5 as originally scheduled in CU-299. The next Chairs' Meeting will be held April 12 from 10-12pm in CU-150 in the Executive MBA Program auditorium.

Before inviting a Regent...

Notify the Dean and contact Corinne Gallegos
Members of the Board of Regents receive many invitations to events at the CU system universities. In fact, the flood of invitations can be overwhelming. The Office of the Board of Regents has collaborated with University Relations to develop a more effective and efficient system for inviting Regents to events. It aims to funnel event invitations to one point of contact in the Regents Office. So, before inviting a Regent to an event in your department, please let the Dean know of your plans, and then send the invitation for one or more Regents to the Office of the Board of Regents, not directly to Regents themselves. Corinne Gallegos is the contact person, and she can be reached at 303.860.5672. Mailed invitations can be sent to the Office of the Board of Regents, 1800 Grant, Suite 800, 035UCA, Denver, CO 80203.

Exam Report Forms

Deliver or mail to Jill Hutchison only
Please inform all faculty who serve on graduate project or thesis committees that signed Exam Report Forms should never be handled by students.  These should always be either hand carried to Jill Hutchison in the Dean's Office or sent via campus mail to Campus Box 144.  Also, please be sure to send in a Change of Record form to assign letter grades to any previous thesis or project credits for which an IP was submitted.  One Change of Record form can accompany a "Thesis-Project grade change form," which can be found on the Faculty Resources web page.

Marketing focus group

Chairs and CLAS Council members wanted
A few Chairs and members of the CLAS Council are wanted for a small focus group to help guide CLAS’s marketing efforts.  It will be one meeting and will last about an hour-and-a-half.  Please contact Katy Brown by Wednesday, April 11 if you would like to participate.

CLAS campus-wide elections

Please email your nominations by April 16
It’s spring again, and that means it’s time for faculty nominations and elections for committees at the college and campus level!  Please have a look at the attached list of committee membership and vacancies, and nominate yourself or others (having checked with them first, of course) for vacancies.  Please email your nominations to Mary Coussons-Read by Monday April 16.  Do you have questions about committee focus, workload, or anything else about these committees? Please email Mary or call her at 303.556.6665 and she will help.  Ballots will be distributed no later than April 20, and voting will occur in the following week.  Also, if you are already serving on a committee and see an error in your term or have questions about your term, please contact Mary ASAP.  Thank you for your participation and willingness to serve!

Lunch, Learn & Link
In an effort to increase awareness about CLAS and create connections with the business community, Dean Harbor has planned a summer program lecture series with the Downtown Denver Partnership (DDP).  Skyline Park, located between 15th and 16th between Lawrence and Arapahoe (by the Palomino Grill) is where the program will take place.  The DDP will handle the advertising of the lectures with the downtown business community, and CLAS will provide logistical support for the events.  Attendees, while listening to a 15 minute presentation from one of our faculty members, will eat their lunches, then link up in small groups to discuss the presentation for another 15 minutes, followed by a short period of Q&A with the full group and faculty member.

Please contact Katy Brown by April 20 if you are interested in participating as one of the lecturers, and please also provide some topics that you think would be interesting to the business community.
