English Instructor for International College at Beijing

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is resuming operation of an innovative program in China at the International College at Beijing.  All courses are administered by the University of Colorado Denver and the degree earned is awarded by UCD.  All classes are taught in English.

The UCD English department seeks an Instructor to teach in the Composition Program at the International College Beijing.  An MA in Composition/Professional Writing or related field and demonstrable record of excellence in teaching is required. Experience in TESOL and/or TOEFL is preferred.  The teaching load consists of 4/4 courses under either one semester or one academic year contract. Contract is renewable depending on performance. Housing, round-trip airfare, and health insurance included. Pay is commensurate with experience. Participation in a faculty orientation and development is expected in late spring or early summer. Position begins September 8, 2008 for arrival in Beijing. The semester in China begins mid-September, a date decided by the Chinese government.

The Location in Beijing

The International College at Beijing is located in the Northwest suburbs, a short cab ride from Tiananmen Square, the Summer Palace, the Forbidden City, and the Temple of Heaven.  Many major universities are nearby – Modern Language University, Tsinghua and Peking to mention a few.  Nearby shopping includes local department stores, Starbucks, McDonald’s, Subway and innumerable local restaurants.  Somewhat more distant shopping offers international department stores, traditional art and craft fairs, pearl markets, antiques and flea markets. Beijing is a hub for airline and train service.
