
The environome refers to the social/environmental factors that interact with underlying genetic makeup to affect health. Almost all health outcomes result from environment-gene interactions, and much remains unknown about both the environmental factors at play and the way in which they get 'under the skin.' The goal of the Environome Science program is to bridge insights and methods from Liberal Arts and Sciences with genetic analyses, both through training cohorts of students and also through faculty research. Environome Science will be part of a new College undergraduate major in Public Health, which is scheduled to start in Fall of 2008. The Steering Committee, listed below, is currently working on the undergraduate curriculum through consultation with faculty in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Health Sciences Center, and representatives from industry.
