Working Papers
The Department of Health and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Colorado at Denver is pleased to begin our "Working Papers in Health and Behavioral Sciences" series with these two papers by graduate students in the department. The papers were written as a final project for the conference, La Globalización y Los Retos de la Salud en Latinoamerica (Globalization and Health Risks in Latin America), a Fulbright New Century Scholars Course held during the summer of 2003.
Lisa Brando's paper
"Global Public Goods for Health: Myth or Mantra" (pdf) explores the concept, applications, and implications of global public goods and its impact on health. Whereas in its purest application, global public goods seems idealistic and antithetical to market capitalism, less comprehensive public goods can mitigate some, but not all, of the ill effects of globalization.
Anne Sebert Kuhlmann's paper
"Ecuadorian Roses: Chemicals and Conflicts" (pdf) addresses the harm that Ecuadorian workers, their families, and their communities face in producing roses for export to more developed countries.
