Xiaojia Hou
Xiaojia received her Ph. D from Cornell University in 2008, major in modern Chinese history, minor in Russian history and political science. Her research interests include comparison of communist movements in China and in the Soviet Union, Mao Zedong and China’s revolution in the 20th century and the transformation of China since the 1950s. She has two forthcoming articles: “ ‘Get Organized’:The Impact of the Soviet Model on the CCP’s Rural Economic Strategy, 1949-l953”, in China Learns from the Soviet Union, 1949-present, edited by Thomas P. Bernstein and Hua-yu Li; “Rural Policy in Flux:Lai Ruoyu's Challenge to the Party Center in the Early 1950s,” in China on the Margins, edited by Sherman Cochran and Paul G. Pickowicz.
She teaches courses on Asian survey, pre-modern Chinese history, modern Chinese history and modern Japanese history. She is planning to develop courses on modern Russian and Cold War in Asia.
