Dates
Summer study runs for three weeks from mid July through early August.
2007: July 22nd - August 10th (Please arrive in Oldenburg on or before Sunday, Aug 22nd.)
Arrival in Oldenburg
Housing for the summer course is only partially in dorms. Normally, the person in charge of dorm housing has the keys to the rooms, and a buddy or someone else can meet the student at the train/bus station and make sure the student makes it to the proper housing. Several rooms are in shared flats as well as in private housing. The incoming student must plan out her/his arrival needs so that someone in Oldenburg will be available to help the student get to the correct residence. In any case, students must make a contact in Oldenburg in advance and announce when they are arriving. As a student, be sure you give the day and time of your arrival. Also make clear where your point of origin and your means of transport is (ex.: from Frankfurt by train, from Bielefeld by bus, Opa is driving me in from the farm, etc.) Be sure to fill out and submit the "arrival form" on the application. One of the easiest means in getting to Oldenburg is to fly into Bremen.
Time Change
Don't forget that you arrive a day later from your departure when flying to Europe from North America. If you fly from Denver, for example, at 5:30pm on a Thursday, you will arrive on Friday mid-day in Frankfurt. Central European Time is 8 hours ahead of Mountain Time in the U.S., so even though your body thinks it's only 4am, it will be noon on the following day and you need to be functioning as such. If you expect this might impare your ability to function, then consider arriving a day or two early so that you can give your body time to adjust.
