Dr. Colorado wins award from American Institute of Architects
History Professor Tom Noel, also known as “Dr. Colorado,” has won the American Institute of Architects’ Contribution to the Built Environment by a Non-Architect Honor Award. A jury of local architects selects the award from a large pool of nominations received by the membership of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The award “recognizes outstanding accomplishments by a non-architect in Colorado, who has demonstrated exemplary achievement in contributing to the quality of the built environment,” says Nicolle Thompson, programs manager for AIA.
Noel has been invited to receive the award at the AIA Colorado 2009 Design Awards Gala on Saturday, Oct. 17 in Keystone, Colo.
In addition to teaching and writing as “Dr. Colorado” for the Denver Post about art, architecture and historic preservation, Noel has written seven books on the architecture of Colorado, serves as chair of the Denver Landmark Preservation Commission and is on the board of the National Register of Historic Places.
