Nov. 19, Dr. Robert Glennon, Acclaimed Author and Expert, to Speak about Water Conservation

The Office of Student Life, the School of Public Affairs, and the Department of Economics are excited to host Dr. Robert Glennon, Morris K. Udall professor of Law and Public Policy at University of Arizona, to campus on Thursday, Nov. 19 for a distinguished lecture entitled “Unquenchable: America’s Water Crisis and What to do about it.

The lecture will be held at 7pm in the Tivoli Student Union Turnhalle room. Dr. Glennon’s recent book and continued research in the area of water has made him an authority on property rights pertaining to water. He has drawn significant national attention and recently appeared on The Daily Show with John Stewart to discuss water issues and his new book. Please join us for what will be an extremely revealing discussion.

In addition to Dr. Glennon’s opening lecture on Thursday evening, he will participate in a panel discussion on Friday at 10am to discuss research opportunities in the areas of water and sustainability at UC Denver and in Colorado’s Front Range. All are welcome and encouraged to attend both the lecture and panel discussion. It will be held in the 5th Floor Conference Room of the Lawrence Street Center (1380 Lawrence, Denver, CO 80204).

Since his new book was published in April 2009, he has been a guest on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Diane Rehm Show, C-SPAN2’s Book TV, and National Public Radio shows in New York City, Chicago and Phoenix; he’s also published pieces in the Washington Post and the Arizona Republic.  In 2009, his active speaking schedule will take him to Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Canada, and 17 U.S. states.

Glennon received a J.D. from Boston College Law School and an M.A. and Ph.D. in American History from Brandeis University. He is also a member of the bars of Arizona and Massachusetts. He is the Morris K. Udall Professor of Law and Public Policy in the Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona.  A recipient of two National Science Foundation grants, he serves as Water Policy Advisor to Pima County, Arizona; as a member of American Rivers’ Science and Technical Advisory Committee; and as a commentator and analyst for various television and radio programs.  He is also a Huffington Post blogger.
