The study of political science prepares students to understand and cope with a rapidly changing sociopolitical world and it's human consequences.
The primary thrust of the political science curriculum is to sensitize students to the essential questions of politics and life:
- Who has power?
- Where does it come from?
- How does it affect our lives.
- What can we do about it?
The Major in Political Science is structured with an optional public policy track. Both tracks provide the opportunity to explore historical, quantitative, experimental, ethnographic, psychological, and creative methodologies.
The Minor in Political Science is a good choice for any student engaged in a field where politics and power influence decision-making.
The Law Studies Minor should appeal to students contemplating entering law school, as well as those interested in issues relating to law and society and careers in public policy related fields.
The Minor in Chinese Studies is a worthwhile choice for any student anticipating a career that might involve travel to China and the Pacific Rim, as well as those interested in issues relating specifically to Far Eastern cultures.
The Honors Program offers students the opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree accompanied by the statement "with distinction".
The Major in International Studies, offered through the University's History Department, includes coursework in political science. The program is designed to offer students a thorough education in international issues preparing them for international careers.
