Using the Laboratory - Routine Analysis

Note - The purpose of the Shared analytical Services Laboratory is to provide a centralized pool of equipment, instrumentation, resources, and expertise for chemical analysis. Policies for laboratory access and use are controlled by the SASL Advisory Committee, and, is limited to users who have received the relevant SASL Safety Briefings. Failure to follow the stated procedures will result in revocation of the users permission to use the laboratory.

Researchers requesting routine laboratory services need to submit a formal request. Routine services are those not involving hazardous materials or processes, and for which the instrumentation is normally configured. If you don't know if your desired analysis is routine or not, please fell free to contact the Laboratory Manager. The request should provide the information needed to allow the lab to schedule laboratory resources and declare the people who will be working in the lab. The request may be submitted either by e-mail or in writing, and should include:

- The names and contact information of the researcher, and any students who will be working in the lab

- The date of the request

- The proposed start date, and duration for the use of the lab

- The cost center, or a description of how payment is to be made for the analysis

- A breakdown of the equipment, chemicals, and instrumentation to be used

- An estimate of the involvement of laboratory personnel. Will laboratory personnel be performing the analysis, providing instruction, helping with experimental design, etc.?

- The anticipated number July 9, 2007l the lab be used during the duration of the project.)
