Lecturer Appointment Guide

Qualifications for Lecturer Appointment:

Lecturers should have their master's degree in the discipline in which they teach or its equivalent as determined by the department faculty. They are expected to possess the same scholarly qualifications as other part-time, lecturers in the department.

High School teachers who wish to teach courses in the CU Succeed Gold Program must submit the following materials for review by the appropriate academic departments:

  • CU Succeed Gold Lecturer Appointment Form
  • Current Curriculum Vita, including Education (degrees, dates, institutions attended, etc.), Teaching Experience, Publications and References (names, titles and phone numbers
  • Unofficial copies of transcripts showing degrees received and courses taken from all institutions attended.
  • Two current letters of recommendation
  • Detailed, university-style syllabus for the proposed course(s) (click here to consult the CU Succeed Gold Syllabus Preparation Guide; click here to view approved CU Succeed courses, e.g. biology, chemistry, math, etc.)
  • .

    Modern Languages Department Applicants ONLY:

    In addition to the materials requested above, you must provide the following information if you are seeking appointment to teach a Modern Language through the CU Succeed Program.

    .

  • Sample lesson plans / course materials.
  • .

  • Assessment criteria and sample tests, including final exam.
  • .

  • Videotape (VHS format or DVD):   Please preview to be sure that the voices are clear and that the writing on the board is legible on the tape.  The video must be of the course the instructor wishes to offer for UCD credit.  Also,

  • .

      • Clearly mark the tape with course level and date
      • Include a thirty-minute segment
      • Show interaction with students (we want to hear how they sound, too)
      • Include at least a ten-minute segment showing grammar instruction

    Letters of recommendation should be solicited from individuals who can provide valuable information about your knowledge in the field, your teaching skills, and other qualifications that, in their opinion, make you qualified to teach at the university level. All materials should be sent in one complete packet to the CU Succeed Program Offices:

    Upon completion of the departmental review, the appropriate Director will notify the applicant regarding the department's decision. If the applicant is approved, s/he will receive a letter offering her/him an appointment to the adjunct faculty and detailing the terms and conditions of the appointment.
