Abstract

This paper discusses the philosophy of child participation and practice of the child-to-child approach in relation to changing paradigms of the status and role of children. Drawing upon ideologies that support child participation, it examines implications of using participatory child-to-child approaches. Practical experiences of child-to-child projects on health and education in South Asia illustrate benefits and challenges for different stakeholders. The child-to-child approach has kindled a new understanding of power between adults and children, which is not competitive but mutually respectful.
