Abstract

Two of the infant's most vital caregiving needs are an interesting, organized physical environment and a responsive human environment. Although the human environment is not generally referred to as an environmental issue, the human environment is particularly critical for an infant's development. Research is reviewed on optimal physical and human qualities of infants' caregiving environments.
