Hands On, Feet Wet captures the first five years of River Crossing Environmental Charter School, but like any organism, it must continually grow and evolve so it doesn’t die. We are constantly changing to meet the needs of our students—filling a niche. It’s exciting to imagine what the next five years will bring. I believe that every child can learn if she is willing and given the right environment. Public charter schools all over the country are changing the environments in which kids learn. Using the natural world as a central theme at River Crossing increases many students’ willingness to learn, take risks, and get their hands dirty.
Victoria Rydberg grew up in a small, rural town in scenic southeastern Minnesota. She completed her teaching degree at WinonaStateUniversity and is currently completing an MS in Environmental Education through the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.
