The Third International Conference on Arsenic Exposure and Health Effects offers the latest exposure and health-related arsenic research from around the world. Some of the distinguished invited speakers will be C.-J. Chen, J. Froines, V. Aposhian, T. Rossman, K. Brown, K. Irgolic, M. Vahter, I. Thornton, D. Menzel, V. Bencko, M. Cebrian, and A. Smith. The sessions will include sources, geochemistry, mechanisms, dose-response, remediation, patient care, exposure (several countries will be represented), epidemiology (cancer and noncancer), bioavailability, metabolism, and other related subjects.

This meeting will be of interest to research scientists, regulators, industrial representatives, and policy makers.

The Third International Conference on Arsenic Exposure and Health Effects will be held July 12-15, 1998. The objectives of the meeting are to:

  • Summarize the present state of knowledge regarding sources, pathways, exposures, toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics of arsenic in the environment and in organisms.
  • Identify arsenic problem areas around the world.
  • Identify important data gaps and uncertainties in the literature regarding environmental arsenic exposures and health effects.
  • Learn about the research being funded by U.S. EPA, industry and the governments in other in other countries.
  • Discuss cost-effective control and abatement strategies.

Among the topics to be covered are: exposure, bioavailability, toxicokinetics, dose-response relationships, health effects, EPA's arsenic risk assessment, abatement and control strategies. Interested researchers, policy makers and industrial representatives are asked to respond to this call to present talks, poster sessions, and participate in panel discussions.
