Daniel Piatkowski
Bio
I received my Bachelor’s of Art degree in English Literature and Creative Writing from Arizona State University, and a Master’s of Urban and Environmental Planning degree from Arizona State University.
In a previous life, I taught English in Lithuania, studied Yiddish, and worked in publishing. More recently, I have spent a number of years in the bicycle industry and briefly as a bicycle messenger before returning to graduate school. After receiving my Master’s, I worked in Santa Fe, NM in strategic planning and community organizing. I have volunteered at and co-managed two community bicycle cooperatives and bicycle-sharing programs in the Metro Phoenix area.
Research
My research in centered on: Transportation planning. Travel behavior. Non-motorized travel (walking and bicycling). Infrastructure requirements specific to nonmotorized modes. Factors influencing mode choice as well as work and residential location decisions.
I am currently working with the Active Communities/Transportation (ACT) Research Group on projects focusing on understanding travel behaviors specific to users of nonmotorized modes.
