I received a promotion.  Part of the reason for the promotion was due to the certificate in Designing eLearning Environments.  I had tried unsuccessfully to be promoted within Boeing, but once I added the certificate to my resume, I started getting inquiries.

I recently graduated from the UC Denver program and I really enjoyed it. It was a great mix of practical and theoretical and I have an e-portfolio to show to prospective employers. There was also a nice mix of backgrounds... elementary and high school teachers, corporate trainers and post-secondary. There were even folks from the armed forces.

One of my clients was interested in the concept of the course I created in the Certificate program and paid me to go ahead and complete it. We piloted the course earlier this year and received positive feedback overall. We need to adjust the timing/schedule before rolling it out to the entire company, but that was the only real issue. It was really exciting to take something that was a rough "proof of concept," and then complete it and get positive feedback on it. The skills I learned in the Certificate program are used every day!

I am simply amazed at the progress I've made in the last 6 months. I didn't even know what HTML stood for before these courses, except for that very smart people could write stuff in it and amazing things could happen on screen. Now I'm inventing new ways to use some of the resources you've introduced us to. ... You've definitely put together some of the very best online courses available anywhere.

Until I experienced it firsthand, I wouldn't have guessed that social interaction was such an important part of online learning or that it takes so much time and planning to create an excellent online learning experience. I know we read about it and [the instructors] modeled it for us, but it just didn't sink in.  It was [a case of] 'you don’t know what you don’t know.'... I’ve learned that it’s just as important to make connections with learners and find ways to extend the conversation as it is to post a response that might be the 'correct' answer or a well thought out response. This was a big Aha for me.

These courses have been very engaging for me. I particularly enjoy the teaching styles that [the instructors] have demonstrated in that they modeled the strategies they taught us. I hope to always implement this same approach in my teaching. To me this is exemplary teaching and I feel privileged to have had two Teacher of the Year award winning instructors for my coursework.

Not only were online learning strategies modeled and executed with excellence, I had the opportunity to view the experience from the student's perspective. I especially appreciated the learning that centered on facilitation. ... This semester I learned strategies and best practices for being a facilitator.

I've had a couple of courses already that have covered instructional strategies. However, those were more focused on face-to-face strategies. And like traditional learning, those courses were more based on theory than practice.  I liked how this course focused more on practice and using strategies in a more real-life environment; to give students the opportunities to not only experience the learning first hand, but to collaborate and construct their own methods of using the strategies.

I plan to use this information to always check my sites and any training materials I produce from the user's point of view. There is no use for a flashy site that doesn't make sense or that doesn't work properly. I always check my sites for functionality, but I never really considered the user's point of view. This course has given me the tools to see beyond myself and my material to better serve the learner.  Thank you for the great learning experience.

I have studied most of these strategies and theories before. The problem is that it really did not sink in until I actually applied it into real-life applications. I think this is the strongest part of this certification program and is one of the reasons I have found this certification program so effective. I originally wanted to go through this certification program because I knew it would help build my portfolio, however I never thought that it would reinforce and actually help me to better understand the previous knowledge I gained in my original MA.

I've really enjoyed these three classes, working with you and the other instructors and classmates. I'm going to miss the interactions with everyone! Thank you very much for all your help and for running such a great program!

The course work has been a great learning process and I have enjoyed my experience in this program - especially the team sharing aspect.

The online courses were challenging, but they offered something I couldn't get locally--integration of the "how to" build websites with the "why" of instructional design. The instructors helped us adapt our projects to our individual situations. They challenged us to push our technical limits, responded to our questions, and applauded our results. Working with a cohort gave us a built-in support group and the chance to see many different applications of the principles and techniques covered.

I know for certain the DeE program expanded my instructional design knowledge and helped me to develop the multimedia authoring skills required of an Instructional Designer. It was these skills that helped me land my new job! In fact, my current employer later commented to me that it was the instructional design component of my portfolio (the final product from the DeE program) that was the selling point in my interview!
