Constitution & By-Laws

The constitution and/or by-laws of an organization contains the rules and procedures that govern the actions and activities of the organization. The constitution should:

  • State the purpose and objective of the organization
  • Define the purpose of the organization and criteria for membership
  • Outline all rules that the organization considers important enough that the organization cannot change without previous notice to the members and a majority vote
  • Include a "Non Discrimination Clause"

"Discrimination on the basis of race, gender, creed, color, national origin, age, disability, or sexual orientation, by any individual or unit of this organization is prohibited. A cause of action is created under this article for any individual who feels that he/she has been discriminated against in violation of this section."

  • State the rights and limitations of any members, officers and advisors.
