DESCRIPTION & PURPOSE

Auraria Anti-War and More! (AA-WAM!) is a group of individuals committed to ending the current US-led war in Iraq. Given the genocidal circumstances under which the war was planned, implemented and is currently being waged, we work with a sense of urgnency in our efforts. And, given the cost of such a grand military endeavor, we feel obliged to connect the war to lack of funding for education, affordable housing, health care and other necessities at home. With these realizations in mind, AA-WAM! will serve a three-fold purpose: -to provide a medium by which students who oppose the current US military operations in Iraq can interact, build relationships and organize around war, militarism, imperialism, globalization and other related issues -to promote and help nurture the understanding of these issues within the campus community as a whole -to serve the college by fostering campus unity, furthering student advocacy and making our academic endeavors relevant within the current political paradigm The only criterion for membership in Auraria Anti-War and More! is to be a student on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver. Meeting times may be constantly-changing, given the dynamic nature of such a group. Some activities sponsored by AA-WAM! include: film showings, panel discussions and lectures, creation of student publications, anti-recruitment efforts, concerts and direct action in the community.
