The UCD Writing Center accepts applications on a rolling basis from students and instructors for the position of Professional Writing Consultant. This is a paid position, starting at $12 per hour for graduate students and instructors or $8 per hour for undergraduates. Training is provided upon hire.

The well-qualified candidate will have:

  1. Completed English 2030 or the equivalent
  2. Experience writing in academic disciplines across the curriculum
  3. Fluency in discussing and teaching writing
  4. Experience working with second language learners
  5. An interest in learning about writing theory and practice

Application Materials Required

  1. A completed copy of the application form (PDF)
  2. A cover letter detailing your interest in the position and your qualifications
  3. A resume or CV
  4. A 7-10 page typed writing sample (an academic paper from any course is acceptable)
  5. A copy of your most recent transcript
  6. 1-2 letters of recommendation from faculty/instructors

It is strongly recommended that applicants attend or observe a Writing Center session.
