The Writing Center offers students whose schedules do not match ours, or those who prefer to do their work from the comfort of home, the ability to work on their writing online with a consultant.

Fall 2009 Online hours:

7 Nights a Week
6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Our online consultations are synchronous—you and the consultant are online at the same time. For that reason, sessions are available by appointment only.

First, Schedule your Appointment for Online HERE!

Then follow these steps:

  1. Go to http://connect.cuonline.edu/ucdwconline/.
  2. On the log in page, select "Enter as Guest"
    a. Type your name and hit "Enter"
  3. You are now in the UCD Writing Center online consulting room.
    b. If you are asked to install the Adobe Connect Add-In, do so and click Install.
  4. Your name will appear in the Attendee List on the left side of your screen along with the Consultant’s name.

The online consulting room is always open, so you can log in and get to know the platform. For extra assistance, watch a two-minute tutorial on YouTube (above) or download the file HERE! (Click to watch in your browser; right-click and 'Save Target As' to download (may take a minute or more.))

Online consultants always have a headset on hand should you want to talk instead of type. A simple set of speakers allows you to hear consultants speak, but if you want to chat back and forth, you'll need to buy an inexpensive headset. Below are 2 examples from Office Depot:

The set our consultants use ($40)

A comparable set for much, much less (under $15)
